Panthers offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo said in an interview Tuesday that Sam Darnold will be the starting quarterback next season.
McAdoo later added that coach Matt Rhule has the final say, but the way the team works right now is premised on starting Darnold.
The only quarterbacks on the Panthers’ roster for next season are Darnold and P.J. Walker, but they could also add rookies with the No. 6 pick in the first round. They’ve already interviewed Malik Willis, Kenny Pickett and many other rookies.
After taking over as the Panthers offensive coordinator, McDoo has expressed his love for Darnold. “There’s something magical about Sam playing,” McAdoo said. “His athleticism is unquestionable. I’m looking forward to working with Sam. We’ve been working on the offense over the past few days, and he’s shown the quality of a great player. .”
